This week, the European Parliament took important decisions concerning the future of the digital euro. This is a topic in research in our research training group as well. Taking this current development as an occasion, we spoke with Professor Barbara Brandl and David Hengsbach in our podcast about the digitalization of money, with a particular focus on the development of the digital euro. In the conversation, we explore the process behind its emergence, the various actors involved, and the role of technical standards in shaping its design. We also critically discuss these developments and examine the question of how the growing spread of digital payment methods affects social inequality.
