Last month, the RTG welcomed the Mercator Fellow, Prof. Aarti Gupta, for a research visit in Darmstadt. The visit provided numerous opportunities for academic exchange between Prof. Gupta, the Principal Investigators (PIs), and the RTG fellows.
As part of her visit, Prof. Gupta delivered two lectures on current issues in global environmental and climate governance. Her first talk, “The Politics of Global Climate Transparency Standards and Their Contested Uptake in South Africa, India and Ethiopia”, explored the political dynamics surrounding the development and implementation of global climate transparency standards across different national contexts. In her second lecture, she examined “Standard-Setting in Solar Geoengineering Governance”.
In addition, Prof. Aarti Gupta and Prof. Frank Biermann participated in Prof. Markus Lederer’s seminars on “Global Climate Politics” and “Geopolitics”. These sessions provided RTG fellows with the opportunity to engage in in-depth discussions on current debates in international climate and environmental politics with leading scholars in the field.
The visit concluded with the recording of a new podcast episode featuring Prof. Aarti Gupta and Prof. Markus Lederer on “The What and Why of Climate Standard-Setting.” The episode will be available here.
